I Am Sleep Deprived

Wake up feeling tired? Check. Excessive daytime sleep? Check. Cranky? Check.

Only those with a baby will truly understand what it’s like to be sleep deprived. It is like a form of torture and you start to think there’s no point going to sleep as you’ll be more tired waking up then if you had stayed up. This was us last night.

My 10 and a half month old goes through cycles of being able to sleep through to frequently waking up almost every few hours overnight, which isn’t that bad but when she wakes up, it’s impossible to get her back to sleep now that she’s a bit older and aware of her surroundings. She’s currently going through separation anxiety which is just as bad as when she was attached to my breasts (and waking up every 2 hours because she couldn’t put herself back to sleep). So she’ll wake up and sook until it’s me that comes in and holds her back to sleep. It can’t be anyone else as she’ll scream. Sometimes it’s so bad, she won’t go back to sleep unless I take her into bed with me.
Not sure how long this will last but my normal method of ‘pick up and put down’ isn’t working anymore. During the day she’s fine, it’s normally just overnight.
Anyone have any suggestions? This mama is worn out and desperately needs some sleep! My husband suggested that we introduce a toy which she can become attached to so that when I’m not around, she has something to hold on to. I’ll give this a go and let you all know how it goes!

  1. My baby has this problem he will sleep fine for ages then all of a sudden it will be awful. Could it be teething? We never know do we, hope it’s got better for you as nothing worse than walking around like a zombie haha 😂

    1. Hi Amy! Thanks for getting in contact. I have been tired for so long, I can’t remember when I slept properly. Sometimes, I think I sleep well but I think I’m getting to the stage where I forget that I wake up during the night! It might be teething or separation anxiety! I feel like it’s a guessing game 😂😅 I wouldn’t change my life though!

  2. You could try going to sleep at the same time at night and waking up in the morning around the same time.. maybe getting in a nap when the little one is sleeping too.. Hope you get a nice rest soon xx

    1. Thank you for the advice Christy! I really should sleep when the baby sleeps but I get so happy that it’s ‘me’ time and I end up sleeping really late! It is getting better with age and hopefully it won’t always be like this!
